BJJ at ZT GYM
Great news for Brighton’s BJJ/MMA enthusiasts!
We are glad to announce our newest affiliated! Sol Gilbert’s ZT GYM is now part of IMBJJ family! Classes are due to start next week – Wednesday 1st May – and will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 1.30pm on regular basis. Coach Ivam Maciel says: “It’s a pleasure for me to be back teaching at ZT! It makes sense, both teams will gain from it, making both of us much stronger. I’m looking forward to be sharing my skills with great bunch of guys and also learn from them.” This deal benefit students from both associations: ZT and IMBJJ members can now cross train BJJ classes UNLIMITED and FREE of charge. A new timetable will be available yet this week, bringing extra classes, we hope you all enjoy! Osss
Congrats to the TEAM!
Last Sunday IMBJJ massive went to Gillingham, Kent for one more edition of TUFF Grappling Challenge. Our Brighton based team had also support from our recently new affiliates from Guildford and Haywards Heath. The competition was tough, clubs especially from London came strongly well prepared and with a nice crowd behind them. These plus great matches made a great atmosphere inside and outside the mats.
Personally for us, another great day at the office. Thanks to a hard work and effort put on practise by every member of the team – we had done very well! We reached the TOP 3 on team’s results once again! It shows that we are in the right way and we got to keep it up. It’s hard getting there, even harder to hold.

MMA in Brighton + No-Gi
Busy week at BJJ Academy!
Last Monday 15th our new timetable has started bringing new classes as MMA and No-Gi. The numbers were great, busy classes and a lot of new faces looking to sharp their game in Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our aim is to make sure you learn and enjoy our classes as much as possible, for this reason all the classes are divided by level, if you are not too sure about what class is suitable for you, don’t worry. BJJ in Chichester
We are delighted to announce that our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are now also available in Chichester. To attend requests from new and already students we are bringing BJJ once per week at The Old Dojo. Students from Worthing and Littlehampton area should benefit from it. What a week!
Last week Head Coach Ivam Maciel went away for three weeks in Brazil. During this time, the assistant coach Raul Rodrigues is the man in charge for the club. In his first competition as coach and athlete Raul and the team done very well: 4th place at Dorset and Hants BJJ Tournament and for Raul even better: his first Gold as Purple Belt!
Another great individual results for Aftab Miah, Sam Samagh, Jacek Krawczyk, Daniel Cummins, Darel Bushby, Tim Clemens, Tom Bish and Kane Streggles. Congrats to all team who took the challenge and made it, we are already training looking forward for the English Open, early in November.
Ivam Maciel’s trip in Brazil
It’s been a week since our Head Coach Ivam Maciel landed in Brazil for training at his old school in the Parana State. Ivam is training daily under his coach Tyan Donomai and sharing the mats with old team mates. Next week Ivam will land in Rio de Janeiro to train with Ricardo De La Riva and Eduardo Brigadeiro in Copacabana.

Saturday was a great day at BJJ Academy, it seemed like we were in Brazil! Outside the sun was shining and inside our Dojo were a great bunch of students learning straight from the source, 3x World Champion Vitor Shaolin. Teaching the best of the gentle art and answering all the student’s questions, Vitor also had the time to share the facts and history of his career back in Japan, USA and Brazil… It was brilliant!
At the end of the seminar our team got together once again and headed to Preto Brazilian Steakhouse, where we finished our day having an authentic Brazilian BBQ. Well done to everyone who made it, this encouragement helps us to keep bringing legends of our sport to train with you and provide you with great experiences. We at BJJ Academy hope everyone enjoyed the seminar and we are looking forward for the next one. Who do you want us to bring next?!

We are very excited about our new classes in October. Our team is already working hard to get everything sorted to offer great training also in Mixed Martial Arts.
