Our preparation for one of the best competitions in the UK’s calendar is on! From now until Saturday 15th June, all our attentions are focused on this competition. Our Saturdays Competition Training is a must if you are planning to compete. As well as physical and technical, we will be working a lot on IBJJF rules and competition situations. We will actually compete between us every Saturday until the day of the competition. All members of all our affiliates are invited, starting this upcoming Saturday at 12pm at our HQ in Brighton. Don’t miss this out!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Brighton at ZT GYM

We are very happy with our new affiliate in Hove, ZT GYM. Classes are busy with great response from its members. We already have four athletes from there getting ready to compete in Bournemouth with our Competition Team. So, once again here is our invitation. If you are looking to start in BJJ or already train and wants to compete, come try a class with us, you won’t regret.

Also in this edition of BJJ Academy Insider, we would like to congratulate one of our most special members: JP Hamilton, who won his 3 matches last Saturday in Birmingham at British Open 2013 and added one more Gold for his collection at Blue Belt. Good job JP, the future is bright (ops.. maybe Purple?!) Osss!

Great news for Brighton’s BJJ/MMA enthusiasts!

We are glad to announce our newest affiliated! Sol Gilbert’s ZT GYM is now part of IMBJJ family! Classes are due to start next week – Wednesday 1st May – and will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 1.30pm on regular basis. Coach Ivam Maciel says: “It’s a pleasure for me to be back teaching at ZT! It makes sense, both teams will gain from it, making both of us much stronger. I’m looking forward to be sharing my skills with great bunch of guys and also learn from them.” This deal benefit students from both associations: ZT and IMBJJ members can now cross train BJJ classes UNLIMITED and FREE of charge. Personally for us, another great day at the office. Thanks to a hard work and effort put on practise by every member of the team – we had done very well! We reached the TOP 3 on team’s results once again! It shows that we are in the right way and we got to keep it up. It’s hard getting there, even harder to hold.

We are very pleased to welcome to BJJ Academy, Marcelo Horikawa, Black Belt under Eduardo Brigadeiro. Marcelo used to be coach Ivam Maciel’s team-mate when they both started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, back in the days in Brazil. Marcelo will be spending a few weeks training and finishing his camp for his MMA fight at SnA in Portsmouth on March 9th. Coach Ivam says: “It’s a pleasure to have a great friend of mine, who has grown up in this sport with me, today at my Dojo meeting my students and training with them. I always talk about having roots, It’s important not to forget where you came from and this shows how special that is. Marcelo and I started training together in the same place where we still go back and train today. Every time I go to Brazil I visit there, and now it’s a pleasure to welcome my old team-mate to my own Academy. It’s priceless”.

Guildford BJJ

Last Sunday coach Ivam Maciel made his first visit to Guildford Martial Arts Academy for a two hour class. We are teaching BJJ there twice a week with Justin Mcgibon. The club is growing well and the level is really good and we are expecting great things from Guildford BJJ Team. Keep it up!

We are very pleased with the number of ladies starting in Jiu Jitsu recently at BJJ Academy. They are attending to our Beginners Program (MON-WED-FRI at 6pm) which is ideal for all women looking to begin their martial arts journey; absolutely no experience is required, just an open mind and the desire to get FIT in the process!

Our primary goal is straight-to-the-point and simple: To significantly improve your conditioning, strength and flexibility in order to provide you with the confidence and fitness-level necessary for successful, realistic and effective martial arts training. Students will learn numerous and practical self-defence applications; drills and exercises to promote body coordination; introductory aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition; the relevance of BJJ training for women with minimal or no experience.

Of course, a positive and encouraging team-oriented environment is of paramount importance to us. We believe that this focus is what makes us truly unique at IM BJJ Academy. The weekend brought us a freezing surprise: Loads of snow and temperatures below 0º. Never mind,  we still up for a lot of rolling (no excuses) and we done great sessions! We opened normally on Friday (despite the heavy snow) and had busy classes – specially beginners. On Saturday as previously arranged we traveled 100 miles west to Alex De Souza’s for a 2 hour session with his boys at De Souza Dojo. Great training, hard sparring. Once on the mat you will definitely forget what’s going on outside. Snow? yes. Excuse for not training? Nooooooo!

In competitions our students represented well showing that we are in the right way. White, blue and purple belts doing the homework and the results show our competitive side in all those belts. It makes believe that the future is definitely bright.

Our team is growing in number, but, also in experience. Last Saturday, our grading went to another level. Our first ever (in-house) brown belt! Congrats to Edward Wynn who got awarded his belt after over 3 years as purple belt. As well as Ed, congratulations to the 2012 IMBJJ Academy Blue Belts: Rich Hill, Jurijs Lapainis, Jacek Krawczyk, Mick Griftins, Frazer Cook, Tim Clemens and Joe Pepa.

All those results in 2012 shows that, hard works pays off!
